THE INVISIBLE LIGHT by Umer Rabbani

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

Have you ever looked up at the sky?

And thought to yourself why, just why?

Why are we in this world with no right?

Why are we in this world with with no visible light?

Why are we in this world - is the hope really so bright?

What things are an enjoyable sight,

And what things must we see and fight?

In this world we are just explorers,

Yet in this world there are so many horrors.

In this world we must thrive,

But do we really feel alive?

In this world there are so many stresses to cope,

It begs the question,

Is there really hope?

The world is falling apart,

We must save it,

But where do we start?

The beautiful depths of Africa,

The horrified beauty of the Middle East.

They suffer in pain,

While weŕe luxurious enough to sit here in vain.

Despite trying to expand our stature,

Weŕe always rushing to kill nature.

Despite the loss of biodiversity,

We always want to kill.

All this power hungriness, Just to pay a bill.

Despite so many species going extinct,

We never seem to activate the empathy instinct.

While we sit at home covered by our door,

Does it not bother us that others are at war?

While we go out to party wearing perfume and dior,

Others are running to the point where their bodies are sore.

So much discrepancy there seems to be no roof and no floor,

The double standards and separation are drastic so how much more?

[Kinda describing the pictures in the slide to capture the readers attention one last time]

Look with your eyes and not with your heart,

The pictures you see before you are truly a work of art.

The lake represents global uniformity,

As water can be found everywhere.

It reminds me of universal conformity,

As humans try to fit in everywhere.

The path represents journey of loneliness and isolation,

Something that is needed if there is ever war in a nation.

The homes represent a sense of belonging,

The hope to come to your family and the longing.

So I ask you to think to yourself one last time,

Why are we in this world with no right?

Why are we in this world with no visible light?

Why are we in this world - is the hope really so bright?

What things are an enjoyable sight,

And what things must we see and fight?
